Summer Room Design

At our church, much like many other peoples churches, attendance drops way down over the summer.  It’s not unusual for our attendance to drop 50-60% over the summer.  Families are going on vacation, students are going to camps, they are involved in sports, etc.  Having all these students gone can really make our large group room seem really empty with a smaller number of students there.  To help us not feel too lost over the summer with a smaller group we rearrange our meeting space to make it feel a little more full.

During the school year we set up three sections of chairs and have the students sit in rows with our adult leaders mingling in with the students.  This set up works well for our ministry during the school year.  It allows for a lot of students to be in the room, and gives a little structure to our worship time.

During the summer we take out all the chairs and bring in couches, tables, and other types of chairs for our students to sit it and relax.  By bringing in some of this larger furniture it makes our large space seem a little smaller, and not as noticable when a bunch of students are missing because they are out of town.

Most of our students didn’t even know that we were down in attendance all summer long.  :-)
